Kenny B. Edwards, M.D.
Dr. Edwards is a distinguished member of our orthopaedic and spine surgery team, serving both Mississippi State University and Mississippi University for Women. With his extensive expertise in managing back and neck injuries, he plays a crucial role in ensuring athletes can safely continue their careers. Coaches frequently seek his assistance for their own back and neck issues due to the high demands of their profession.
When patients visit Dr. Edwards with back or neck discomfort, he focuses on accurately
diagnosing the cause of their pain and improving their function. Whether dealing with strains, pinched nerves, sciatica, or bulging and herniated discs, Dr. Edwards collaborates with specialized spine physical therapists to provide a tailored therapy protocol aimed at alleviating pain, restoring mobility, and strengthening affected areas. For non-surgical relief, he consults with his Columbus Ortho pain management partner to offer effective alternatives.
In cases where conservative treatments are insufficient, or when conditions such as ruptured or herniated discs, spine arthritis, fractures, or stenosis are present, Dr. Edwards may recommend surgical options. As a fellowship-trained spine surgeon, he is adept in performing procedures including discectomy, laminectomy, fusion, and artificial disc replacement. Many of these surgeries are perfom1ed on an outpatient basis, allowing patients to recover at home rather than in a hospital.
Dr. Edwards, a native of Columbus, Mississippi, has a personal connection to the community. He is a U.S. Navy veteran and graduated Magna Cum Laude in Biological Sciences from Mississippi State University. He completed his medical education and orthopaedic residency at Wright State University – Boonshoft School of Medicine, followed by a fellowship in orthopaedic spine surgery at The Texas Back Institute. Dr. Edwards is Board Certified by the American Board of Spine Surgery. His inspiring journey from childhood to orthopedic surgeon was recently highlighted in an article by The Dispatch, which you can read here: Partial to Home: From the milk barn to the OR – The Dispatch.
Outside of his professional life, Dr. Edwards values time with his wife and three children, enjoys hunting, and can often be seen on his tractor.
