Columbus Orthopaedics treats knee injuries and knee arthritis for patients in Columbus, Starkville and across the Golden Triangle — from torn ACLs and meniscus tears to worn-out joints that need replacing. Our knee surgeons include Mississippi State University team physicians, and many knee operations, including outpatient total knee replacement, are done at our own outpatient surgery center in Columbus. Most knee problems start with nonsurgical care such as bracing, injections and physical therapy.
Knee appointments are available at our Columbus clinic and our Starkville clinic. Patients farther west can check our visiting clinics in Louisville, Ackerman, and Kosciusko.
The knee is a joint composed of numerous components, including bones, ligaments, muscles, and tendons. When all these components function normally, we can move around easily and without knee pain. When one of these elements is disrupted by a knee injury, disease, or daily wear and tear, it can lead to significant knee pain and limited mobility.
Our Sports Medicine Doctors, Knee Specialists, and Orthopedic Surgeons can help you begin to move comfortably again. We provide a wide range of treatments for primary knee conditions, including ACL tears, meniscal tears, knee arthritis, fractures, and patellar dislocations. Let us help you move with confidence again and get back to the activities you enjoy.
The highly trained Orthopedic Doctors and Knee Surgeons at Columbus Ortho are skilled in total knee replacements, ACL reconstruction, knee arthroscopy, and other surgical and nonsurgical orthopaedic care. Our knee specialists will work with you to create a customized treatment plan so you can return to a more active lifestyle.

Common questions about knee care
Do I need surgery for a torn ACL?
Not always. Many young, active people who want to return to cutting and pivoting sports choose ACL reconstruction because the knee may keep giving way without it. Some less active adults do well with focused rehab and a brace. Your surgeon will talk through your goals, your other knee injuries, and how stable the knee is. Read more about ACL tears and return to sport.
When should I see a doctor for knee pain?
Make an appointment if your knee swelled up right after an injury, you felt a pop, the knee gives way or locks, or pain keeps you from normal activities for more than a week or two. Go to the emergency room if the knee is badly deformed, you can’t put any weight on it, or it is red, hot, and swollen with a fever.
Can a knee replacement be done as outpatient surgery?
For many healthy patients, yes. Outpatient total knee replacement is done at our outpatient surgery center in Columbus, which Blue Cross and Blue Shield recognizes as a Blue Distinction Center+ for total knee replacement. Your surgeon decides with you whether outpatient surgery is safe for you. Learn more.
Are knee injections worth trying before surgery?
For knee arthritis, injections can ease pain for a period of time and help some people put off surgery. How long they help varies from person to person. We also offer PRP injections for some conditions. Your provider will explain what to expect for your knee.
